{"id":14,"date":"2024-04-19T13:23:25","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T13:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ddplab.uni-ak.ac.at\/?page_id=14"},"modified":"2025-06-27T10:19:39","modified_gmt":"2025-06-27T10:19:39","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ddplab.uni-ak.ac.at\/?page_id=14","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Digital Design and Production Lab (ddplab)<\/strong> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ioa.angewandte.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute of Architecture<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dieangewandte.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Applied Arts Vienna<\/a>, engages students in hands-on experiences in digital making and digital fabrication through <a href=\"https:\/\/base.uni-ak.ac.at\/courses\/?select-organizationunit=1236\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">courses<\/a> that introduce a diverse set of CNC tools\u2014including 3D printing and scanning, laser and paper cutters, drawing and milling machines, and 6-axis robotic arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By integrating traditional making techniques with computational workflows, the lab encourages students to explore and expand design approaches such as parametric modelling, physical simulation, and data-driven fabrication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Central to our approach is the 3D model as a shared, evolving dataset linking design to production. Through collaboration with studios and research groups, the lab enables students to conceptualize, prototype, and produce architectural artifacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>workshop<\/strong> is currently supervised by <a href=\"https:\/\/ioa.angewandte.at\/institute\/people\/armin-hess\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ioa.angewandte.at\/institute\/people\/armin-hess\">Armin Hess<\/a> (Monday &amp; Tuesday), <a href=\"https:\/\/ioa.angewandte.at\/institute\/people\/afshin-koupaei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Afshin Koupaei<\/a> (Wednesday and Thursday), and <a href=\"https:\/\/ioa.angewandte.at\/institute\/people\/daniela-kroenhert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daniela Kr\u00f6hnert<\/a> (Friday).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0Digital Design and Production Lab (ddplab) of the Institute of Architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, engages students in hands-on experiences in digital making and digital fabrication through courses that introduce a diverse set of CNC tools\u2014including 3D printing and scanning, laser and paper cutters, drawing and milling machines, and 6-axis robotic arms.
